FAQ

How is Leading Edge Tutors different from a learning center?

Leading Edge Tutors comes directly to you, in the convenience of your home – and we are generally more affordable than learning centers!  There are no expensive academic evaluations, no hidden costs and no registration fees.  In addition, Leading Edge does not teach from a standard, pre-determined program that may not relate to your child’s specific challenges. Our tutors customize programs for each child that complement his/her school curriculum and address the child’s distinctive learning issues.  Leading Edge Tutors will communicate with your child’s teacher, if necessary, and with parental consent. Unlike learning centers, we do not require a time-committed contract, and can even be used on an “as-needed,” hourly basis.  However, we strongly encourage regularly scheduled, ongoing meetings to achieve the best results.

Are your tutors experienced with students of special needs or disabilities?
Yes, many of our tutors work with Individual Education or 504 Plans and understand the unique requirements of a special needs child. Schools are suffering from a lack of resources, which is where Leading Edge really offers an advantage.  Our goal is to empower children, help them excel, and build confidence in their academic capability and their future opportunities.

Does Leading Edge Tutors supply any learning materials for the tutoring sessions?
We recommend that the child bring home his/her textbooks or any other class materials that relate to the tutored subject (s). In some cases, our tutors will provide materials to complement the current lessons.

Do you work with home-schoolers?
Yes, our company is familiar with the home-schooling laws and regulations. We recognize that home-schooling is a viable alternative to more traditional methods of education. Our tutors teach standardized, test-taking skills and offer supplemental assistance in all subjects and grades.

Can tutoring take place at a location other than my home?
Yes, our tutors can meet at a public or school library at your convenience. We require that a parent or guardian over the age of 21 be present during the entire session.

What if my child doesn't like the tutor?
If, after the first session is complete, you do not think the tutor is a good match for your child, Leading Edge will not charge for that particular session and another tutor will be contacted. We will work closely with you to select a more suitable tutor, and make every effort to ensure the perfect child/tutor partnership.

Is there a minimum commitment, and how long is each session?
We do not have any long-term contracts although we strongly suggest a minimum of four sessions in order to realize the greatest benefit. There is a one-hour minimum duration per session.

How long do I have to wait to get a tutor assigned to my child?
After the in-home assessment, our director will immediately contact appropriate tutors. You will hear back from the director within 48 hours from the initial meeting with your tutor’s name and credentials. The tutor will then contact you directly to establish a mutually convenient schedule.

Do you provide test preparation for the SAT and ACT tests?
Yes, we will help your student prepare for both the SAT and ACT exams. We highly recommend that you contact us at least six weeks prior to the test date to adequately prepare. We also suggest test preparation sessions of two hours per week.
